A Spoonful Of Sugar.......

In every job that must be done,
There is an element of fun,
You find the FUN,
and SNAP!!!
the jobs are gained :)

It’s time we hear from Margaret Atwood

The Woman Who Could Not Live With Her Faulty Heart
By Margaret Atwood

I do not mean the symbol
of love, a candy shape
to decorate cakes with,
the heart that is supposed
to belong or break;

I mean this lump of muscle
that contracts like a flayed biceps,
purple-blue, with its skin of suet,
its skin of gristle, this isolate,
this caved hermit, unshelled
turtle, this one lungful of blood,
no happy plateful.

All hearts float in their own
deep oceans of no light,
wetblack and glimmering,
their four mouths gulping like fish.
Hearts are said to pound:
this is to be expected, the heart’s
regular struggle against being drowned.

But most hearts say, I want, I want,
I want, I want. My heart
is more duplicitous,
though no twin as I once thought.
It says, I want, I don’t want, I
want, and then a pause.
It forces me to listen,

and at night it is the infra-red
third eye that remains open
while the other two are sleeping
but refuses to say what it has seen.

It is a constant pestering
in my ears, a caught moth, limping drum,
a child’s fist beating
itself against the bedsprings:
I want, I don’t want.
How can one live with such a heart?

Long ago I gave up singing
to it, it will never be satisfied or lulled.
One night I will say to it:
Heart, be still,
and it will.

Cake, a symbol of love.....

I baked this cake for Sha. She wanted to surprise her niece with a cake on her engagement day. As she gave me only ONE day to come up with a cake, I designed something very simple ...and sweet (I hope ;) )

When the cake was done, I was not entirely satisfied. I shouldn't have coloured it pink!!!
On hindsight, I felt that it would stand out more if I did it in reversed, i.e. the border in pink and the main coating in white....*what do you think?*

Oh well, it's too late to reverse the process or did another cake as Sha would be arriving in 15 minutes to pick up the cake!

For Achik the footie fanatic.....

Over lunch with Ibu Achik, she told me that Achik would be 8 on 3rd October 2010.
As she related to me the antics of Achik and what a footie addict he is, I could see her face lit up with joy and her eyes twinkling with much love for her mischievous little son. We decided to make something special for his 8th birthday in celebration of the FIFA World Cup year :P

and this was what I came up with.......

Syawal gift for a sweet girl

Me and my princesses decided to make this Syawal a bit special for N...
*and I think you could guess what her favourite colour is....YUP!! it's green :)*

My second princess doll cake, My First customer......

Yani would be celebrating her daughter, Aisha's 8th birthday on 6 September
Aisha likes blue so I decided to dress her princess doll in blue....

Many thanks Yani for the order :)

Foodnote : The edible part is the doll's skirt. For the skirt, I made Vanilla Butter cake layered with strawberry preserves and covered with Buttercream icing. The doll can double up as  the special girl's birthday gift :D

and of course, to avoid the drama princess scene, I have to bake one for Papanzel too :P

It all began with.....

Sometime on 22 May 2010....

Poppy : Mom, can you NOT bake me a cake for my birthday this year?
SugaReina : Why???
Poppy : Because you always bake me chocolate cake or chocolate orange cake. Can we buy my birthday cake from S***** R***** ??
SugaReina : What cake do you want from S***** R*****?
Poppy : Can we have Chocolate Mud Cake?
SugaReina : *huh????*

Huh ??? I thought she did not want chocolate cake..and by that I thought it would cover all kinds and varieties of chocolate flavoured cakes....mmmm

Felt slightly *just slightly* challenged, I started cracking my head for ideas on how to impress Poppy...I was adamant that I WILL bake her a birthday cake...come what may

That night, after she went to bed....I started baking this :)

The next morning, she was so surprised to see this on the dining table...."WOW !! so pretty!!! is this for me???"
Seeing the excitement and happiness in her eyes....it was worth burning the midnight oil and slaving over a hot oven .....and so my sweet journey began :)

p/s : she forgot about the cake from S***** R***** ;P
